Welcome to Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK) in LAUSD
We’re excited to introduce you to LAUSD’s Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK) — a full-day program designed especially for four-year-old children. As the first year of a two-year Kindergarten journey, UTK helps our youngest learners build a strong foundation for success in school and beyond.
Here’s what you need to know about UTK:
-
Is my child eligible?
If your child turns four on or before September 1 of the current school year, they’re eligible to enroll in UTK. -
What does the day look like?
Our UTK classes typically run from 8:00 AM to 2:23 PM. Each classroom has about 24 children, with a 12:1 student-to-adult ratio, so your child will get the attention and support they need to thrive. -
What will my child learn?
We focus on early literacy and math skills while nurturing your child’s social and emotional growth. Our goal is to help children develop self-confidence, self-regulation, and a love for learning that lasts a lifetime. -
How do I enroll?
You can find everything you need on the LAUSD UTK website, or you can reach out directly to our school. -
Why choose UTK? UTK gives your child a head start. It’s a safe, supportive, and engaging space where kids can grow academically, socially, and emotionally — all while getting ready for Kindergarten.
